And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” - Luke 23:42

Can I know where I am going after I die?

How can I trust that Jesus knows where I am going?

  • John 14:5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
  • John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
  • Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
  • Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’

Answer No.1: Yes! You can know where you are going after you die.You belong to a group of humanity described perfectly as “Whoever”. Whoever will may come. Because Jesus knows exactly where you have been [all of your past life] is the reason that He knows exactly where you are going [all of your future life].

  • Hebrews 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all

things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

  • Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Jesus knows everything past, present and future. We are so thankful that Jesus knows everything about us. We understand and are GRATEFUL that Jesus knows every sin and failure of our past and yet still declares that He loves us. This means that His love is NOT based upon our merit or loveliness. This supernatural love by which Jesus loves us is called Grace. Grace means: Unmerited Favor. We do NOT earn Jesus’ love, we simply receive it by faith.

  • Colossians 2:13-14 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

The Christian, the one who believes and trusts in Christ, is so thankful that Jesus knows everything. Jesus’ omniscience reassures us that “no long forgotten sin” will suddenly leap up after our death to condemn us. We will stand before God “uncondemned’!

This is why Romans 8 is such a comforting chapter to those who love Jesus: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus!

Answer No. 2: Not only does Jesus know where we are going, but He has declared that He will take us there.

  • John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Luke tells us of a man who knew where he was going. He knew he was going to heaven after he died. This man was a convicted murderer and thief sentenced to death for his crimes. He was hung on a cross next to Jesus. We read this about him:

  • Luke 23:40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

This convicted criminal was a failure to society, family and friends. He had harmed people throughout his life. Nothing good could be said about the time he spent on earth taking in day by day God’s resources which produced his life. This criminal had no good works or meritorious deeds to offer as some excuse to be let into heaven. The man, despite his past, found redemption and hope in the grace extended to him. If he were to be asked, “How did you get into heaven?” The man could only answer one thing: “The Man named Jesus on the middle cross said I could come with Him to heaven and I believed Him.

The end of the story? It was his death, his dying moments when speaking pain-filled words about his trust and love for the God-Man Jesus Christ, the Lord of all, that gave all of his life meaning and filled all of his eternity with joy. This criminal became a great and significant person. In fact, he was numbered among the greatest and most significant people who ever walked upon the earth simply because he believed Jesus was the sinless Son of God and would rise from the dead to become the Lord and Ruler of all the universe.

This one-time criminal knew that something had happened inside his heart which caused him to love Jesus Christ. This dying man felt compelled with his last ounce of strength and final few breaths to declare the beauty of Jesus to “his world”, all those within range to hear. But, remarkably, to this man God is still granting and adding to his eternal treasure as an innumerable number of eternal souls read his dying words and also choose to believe in Jesus.

This one time murderer and thief, with only a few moments of life in his body, used one of those moments to become an eternal child of Almighty God simply because he believed in Jesus and had nothing in his hands as human works to justify his existence or to claim God’s favor.

Like this criminal, every “new born” child of God is given the assurance that where Jesus will be there we will be also. New birth happens in a single instant when life springs into the heart giving it supernatural eternal power to love Jesus Christ.

When this supernatural change occurs, the individual is moved from Lost to Saved and instantly placed upon God’s GUARANTEED LIST!

GOD’s GUARANTEES –

  • 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if

indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

Dear Friend, God is perfect . . in all things. It is impossible for God to lie!

  • Hebrew 6:18 It is impossible for God to lie!

A promise is ONLY as good as the PromiseMaker’s ability to perform the promise.

God is The Perfect PromiseKeeper.

When Almighty Sovereign God declares something is guaranteed, so it is. There is NO OTHER OPTION. Whatever God declares is guaranteed, is GUARANTEED!

  • Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted [believed], after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
  • Ephesians 1:1-7 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in

Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

  • Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received

the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

  • Revelation 21:3-4 God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

It is no mystery nor any wonder that the Christian, the blood-purchased children of God, looks forward to Christ’s soon appearance. This appearance by Jesus can either come at the time of our own death or in His soon return in the heavens to take all of His children to heaven to be with Him forever.

  • Revelation 22:20-21 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming

quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

All our love to All,

In Christ –
