Jesus was born to a mother who was not sinless. How could Jesus, Himself, be considered sinless?
Luke 1:37 For with God nothing will be impossible!
Because nothing is impossible with God, God performed this miraculous work where Adam’s sin nature was not imputed to Jesus. There are different ideas on how this could be accomplished.
The Bible contains many questions we cannot understand with our finite human minds and this is one of those points which God chooses not to reveal in its total miraculous detail. He has revealed enough for us to make an informed decision by faith. We will either choose to believe Jesus was born sinless, without a sin nature and died sinless to pay for our sin debt, or we will choose to disbelieve this truth.
To us, it is no more difficult to understand this truth than it is to understand that God made Adam out of the ground and breathed life into him. In our human minds we cannot understand or comprehend this fact, but our inability to understand does not make this truth false.simply reminds us of the vast difference between infinite, sovereign, omnipotent God and us, His creatures.
- Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
The easiest “truth path” for the answer to us is this one: God had no problem in the least creating Adam WITHOUT a sin nature! It is nothing for God who “speaks worlds into existence” to have His sinless Son brought into the world through the birth canal of the virgin Mary WITHOUT the sin nature of Adam.
- Genesis 1:1-31 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth
was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light . . . Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
- Luke 1:26-38 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
