And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” - Luke 23:42

What was the religion of Jesus?

Share Article

Jesus did NOT come to establish any religious system. Jesus came to fix man’s sin and guilt problem. He came to provide the way back into a reunion in a holy relationship with God the Father. The only possible remedy for sin-filled people to be reconciled to Holy God was if a perfect Man died to pay the sin-debt mankind had brought upon themselves. Jesus died to pay your sin debt and my sin debt for which we rightly were accused, convicted and deservedly sentenced to the death.

In our minds it is important to separate Religion from Relationship. Almighty God has established only one way to be reconciled to Him into a perfect loving relationship. This one and only way is through the belief in and trusting in Jesus Christ.

– John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

What you believe to be true about Jesus Christ is the most important thought you will ever have because all of your eternity, either in heaven or in hell, depends upon your answer.

Jesus did NOT come to set up ANY Religion based upon rules, regulations, sacrifices, giving of money or doing certain good deeds. Jesus came to die as He paid the death penalty required for the sins of all men, yours and mine! He was completely sinless and innocent, but He loved His human creation so much that He died in their place that they may be reconciled back to God in a loving RELATIONSHIP.

God LOVES mankind. God HATES religion whereby men try to pay for their guilt and sins through doing “religious deeds” attempting to earn God’s favor. God simply declares, “Believe and love My Son and receive My gift of life.”

  • John 3:14-17 even so must the Son of Man [Jesus] be lifted up [crucified], 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
  • John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

All RELIGION was fulfilled in Jesus’ perfect life and His death as our Substitute. The Innocent One died to perfectly complete every religious law, so that we, the Guilty could be forgiven and live.

  • Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
