Why did God save Noah?

What was God’s true intention in saving Noah with an ark?

It seems this is a two part question. 1.) What was God’s true intention in saving Noah. 2.) What was God’s true intention in saving Noah with an ark?

Part I. What was God’s true intention in saving Noah?

Genesis 3:14-15
So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

[Commentary]

He [Jesus] shall bruise your [serpent] head [causing the eternal death of the serpent, satan], And you shall bruise His heel.” [The serpent will cause pain and suffering to the Messiah and the children of God until the restoration of the New Heaven and New Earth where no tears, death, sorrow, pain or crying will ever enter again to trouble God’s eternal family].

This is the first proclamation of the Gospel, the Good News, that God has begun His PLAN of REDEMPTION AND RESTORATION of His sinful, separated children back to Himself.

The devil is fully and continually occupied with his evil desire to thwart God’s Plan of Salvation for humanity. The devil knows the end of God’s Salvation Plan means he will be cast forever into the Lake of Fire.

  • Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
  • Matthew 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

The devil attempted to corrupt the entire Human Population of earth by immoral demonic actions.

For mankind to be saved, a Perfect Sacrifice was necessary. This Perfect Man must be truly Man and truly God for Him to become the perfect Lamb of God without blemish. The Messiah MUST NOT have the “sin infection” from the “seed of Man”, so He must be born NOT OF ADAM, but supernaturally born from the Holy Spirit.

Thus, God’s Salvation Plan included the virgin Mary to bring forth the humanity of Jesus. This was the Holy Spirit’s work to unite Jesus’ Divine Nature with perfect Human Nature which was necessary to perfectly “love God and obey His commands” unlike God’s first human, Adam, who fell into sin and disobedience.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

Part II. What was God’s true intention in saving Noah with an ark

In God’s perfect omniscient wisdom and power, He determined to provide a MEANS to save humanity and at the same time give an illustration of the necessary plan that there would only be ONE possible way for sinful humanity to be reconciled to Holy God. Thus, God determined to totally cleanse the world from its evil and yet miraculously save EIGHT SOULS and enough of all “kinds / species of animals” to repopulate the earth.

  • 1 Peter 3:18-22 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring [f]us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
  • Luke 17:25-30  But first He [Jesus] must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man [Jesus] is revealed.

The critically important truth for us is the undeniable fact that God declared that Noah build ONLY ONE DOOR into the Ark. Furthermore, we are told that God, Himself, closed that door which was the ONLY POSSIBLE means of salvation for Noah and his family.

The only door into the Ark is the foreshadowing and an illustration that Almighty God provided ONLY ONE means for the salvation and reconciliation back to Himself. This ONE DOOR into Salvation is believing and trusting in the life, death, burial, resurrection and accession into heaven of Jesus Christ, the Perfect Son of God.

If anyone does NOT believe and trust in Jesus Christ, he will surely forever perish just as all the estimated 7-8 billion people on earth by the flood. Noah and his family were saved by believing God and His promises as they ENTERED INTO THE ONLY AVAILABLE DOOR, the only means provided for salvation.

  • John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
  • Genesis 6:16-18 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.  And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
  • Genesis 7:13-16 On the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark— they and every beast after its kind, all cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in [shut the only door into the ark].
  • John 10:7-11 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
  • Matthew 25:1-13 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’  And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’  But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
  • Luke 13:24-26  “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’
  • Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved [no other entry door].
